Hair Loss types and cause:
Prof. Dr. Ikram Ullah Khan has launched a public awareness campaign to educate public about Skin Care. The topic of the sessions is about hair loss in both men and women. Remember the three main types of hair loss with letters PPP – Physiological (pregnancy), Psychological (stress/grief) and Pathological (Cancer/Typhoid). The main cause of PPP is disturbance in both male and female hormones that are testosterone and estrogen. Treatments for hair loss include medication, hair transplant and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) also known as autologous conditional plasma.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy:
PRP is very popular these days but many skin care doctors do not know the right method nor have the best equipment or PRP kits. To make sure you get the best PRP treatment for hair loss you need to understand what the process is.
PRP therapy, is a three step medical treatment in which person blood is drawn, processed and then injected into the scalp. In this small amount of blood is taken from your own body which is processed in a centrifuge machine. This machine separate platelets from white cells as well as red blood cells. The platelets are then injected into the scalp where it stimulates the growth receptors. Growth factors, in a sense, play the role of messengers, signaling skin cells to function. In fact, they’ve been used in medicine to treat a range of health issues, including arthritis, signs of aging, etc. These growth receptors re-activate the stem cells( fibroblasts) which are already there in your body.
Benefits of PRP:
The uses of PRP is that stem cells then work their way to:
- Stop further hair fall
- Thin hair becomes thicker
- Grow new hair
Duration of PRP:
It takes around 1.5 hours to complete the therapy. A desensitized cream is applied over scalp for ½ hr to reduce pain and discomfort. Scalp is cleaned with antiseptic solutions. Just before therapy, a local anesthesia may be given to make it compete painless. Than PRP is injected into deep skin at hair roots by multiple times. This therapy is given every month for 4-6 months. A maintenance therapy can be taken every 3-6 months.
PRP is effective in all kind of hair loss. But commonly it is good for people between the age 60-70 years having issue of patterned baldness.
If you are worried about your hair fall , you can go-ahead with the PRP but remember this:
- Platelets only work best when these are deposited at the most appropriate layer of the skin (upper dermis of the scalp).
- Not many doctors either know, care or have the right skills to make it happen.
- So make sure you know about your treatment and the doctor who is performing the procedure.Risks of PRP for hair loss:
